The Expert Panel on Sustainable Finance Report
Challenge
With the release of the final report by Canada’s federally appointed Expert Panel on Sustainable Finance set to occur during the lead up during a Federal election, the Ivey Foundation secured Argyle to ensure coverage was driven by the substance of the recommendations - and not by political messaging.
Solution
Argyle focused on a targeted “deep engagement” strategy before the report’s public launch. With the government’s approval, we organized an embargoed editorial board meeting between the expert panelists with the Globe and Mail's Report on Business as well as a conference call briefing with eight national and international journalists. We also worked with the expert panel to craft a critical op-ed focusing on the opportunity sustainable finance presents to Canada’s oil and gas sector.
Impact
By framing the report based on objectivity, credibility, achievability and critical relevance to the Canadian economy, the report launched with positive national and international news coverage. Most importantly, the recommendations were effectively positioned as a financial and economic story, not a political one.
